Rain Man

Finally watched this movie that I had been wanting for watch forever, and it didn’t disappoint IN THE LEAST. It’s amazing because my expectations for this was exceptionally high, but this still managed to meet them. Also worth noting that despite being from 1988, and there are a lot of fashions from that time, the movie still manages to make me forget its age because it’s just that good.
This movie is most likely in my Top 10 despite not managing to make me cry, but the sheer excellence of the chemistry between the two main actors can’t be praised enough, and I can’t believe that Dustin Hoffman isn’t actually an austic savant. He really kept making me forget that he’s an actor, and he seriously, seriously stole every scene he was in. This almost never happens to me, but it happened here.
Despite Hoffman’s practically perfect performance, the then-young Tom Cruise didn’t disappoint at all either, and really held his own, making him the perfect foil to Hoffman’s character. So incredible! These two characters would be nothing without each other, they both really completed each other. It’s been a while since I’ve seen anything like this, so it’s incredibly welcome.
As well, the script was so very entertaining. Just so many memorable quotes and recurring catchphrases! I’m an excellent driver. Although there’s not a super deep plot at work here, it is arresting and unique, and really knows how not to take itself too seriously, all the while showing deep emotion that really strikes home.
So sincere I died, which is why this post mostly doesn’t make any grammatical sense. 90/100
